Scott began working at Norwalk Cove Marina at age 15 as a boat detailer. He worked at Cove thru age 18, when Jim Gardella got him a job with Hatteras Yachts. At Hatteras, Scott was a mate on their company demonstrators, running new model boats from 46’ through 77’.

“We would run Hatteras boats from Texas to Maine, and everywhere in between, including the Bahama’s. Fished the first Hatteras/ Bertram Shoot out where we landed a 400-pound blue marlin. After a year and a half, Hatteras transferred me to the Sales Department in New Bern, North Carolina where I worked until 1984.”

From there, Scott was hired back at Norwalk Cove Marina as a full-time broker selling Hatteras, Bertram, Grand Banks, and Bristol sail boats. “I was the #2 salesman 3 years in a row for selling Bristol sail boats. I was a there until 1991 when a downturn in the economy changed everything.”

Returning to the boat business in 2000, Scott returned as the East Coast Sales Manager for Grand Banks Yachts handling all dealer’s needs from Florida to the Great Lakes thru 2005

“I then went to work for Hinckley Yachts as Sales Director in Portsmouth, RI. I would Captain new models from Boston to New York, taking clients out for a sea trial, and selling them a new boat. Another downturn in the economy caused me to leave Hinckley in 2009.”

Scott began working in Ft. Myers, Florida selling new Regulators, Back Coves Yachts, and an assortment of brokerage boats until 2012.

“I found I missed the Northeast and moved to Belfast, ME. Where I was selling Sabre Yachts, Back Cove Yachts, and brokerage boats. Boating in Maine was a great experience as the tides and currents there can make boating a challenge. I then left Maine in 2017 and went back to work for Hinckley Yachts in their Naples, Florida office handling any sales on the West Coast of Florida.”

From Florida, Scott was offered an opportunity to sell Back Coves and Sabre Yachts in Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay where he stayed until 2019. Still missing the Northeast, Scott returned to Connecticut and was offered a job at Rex Marine working with the Gardella family once again. “I love it here and will not be moving on.”

Scott has worked directly for Hatteras, Hinckley, and Grand Banks Yachts, selling these brands in addition to Bertram, Bristol Sail Boats, Sabre, Back Cove, Regulator, and all makes of brokerage boats. He has sold boats in every state on the East Coast, plus the Great Lakes and California.

Mr. Kinney has attended numerous Boat Shows from Cedar Point on Lake Erie, to the Newport, RI. Norwalk, CT. New York, NY. Annapolis, MD. Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Miami, FL. Ft Myers, FL.

Scott has a love for fishing, participating in numerous Marlin Tournaments including: Block Island, RI. Ocean City, MD. Cape Hatteras, NC. Morehead City, NC. Bimini, Bahama’s. Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Key West, FL.
